Places to visit

We are surrounded by some wonderful places to visit! There are three castles within easy reach, Hever, where Anne Boelyn was brought up.  Penshurst Place, the home of the Sydney Family for centuries and Chiddingstone which is now owned by the National Trust.

Chartwell the home of Sir Winston Churchill is north towards the M25 as is Westerham and Quebec House, where the founder of Canada used to live.

In East Grinstead there is Standen with its original William Morris wallpapers, and also the Bluebell Railway will soon link up to the mainline to London.

Some beautiful gardens are also close by, Wakehurst Place, Nymans Gardens and if you prefer things a little wilder there is Ashdown Forest.

The historic spa town of Tunbridge Wells is less than half an hour away where you can visit museums and walk the Pantiles, or just shop, more individual shops at the lower end of the town and the usual chains at the top of the town.

To the south the towns of Lewes, Brighton, Eastbourne and Hastings are less than an hour away.

If you want to re live your childhood, Hartfield where Winnie the Pooh lived and played with Christopher Robin is only four miles to the south. You can also walk to 'Poohsticks' bridge, although sadly you can no longer play the game.

If you enjoy a walk we can reccommend several, go looking at the old iron founderies in the valley in Cowden or perhaps take the train from Cowden a few stops south and walk back. We have all the maps and can give advice when you need it.
